Information on the course.

The course is designed to introduce delegates to the key messages of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Exploration of mental capacity and the process that occurs when a person lacks capacity.


Course Content

  • Understanding of the 5 guiding principles of the act.
  • Explain what it means to lack capacity.
  • Identify who the decision maker is.
  • Describe the role of an IMCA.
  • Recognition of an offense of ill-treatment.
  • Awareness of Advanced Decisions and Lasting Power of Attorney.


Course assessment and Certification

Delegates will be expected to have input into group discussions and further assessment will be by tutor observation. Certification will be issued for the attendance of this course.
